Ryan Stec

Ryan Stec is a Winnipeg born/Ottawa based media artist and curator. His work varies widely from live performance-based video to more traditional documentary projects. Stec's first collaborative documentary film, Jolly Fat Men, that traces the lives of three shopping mall Santa Clauses through a season on the throne, has gained a small but significan cult apreciation. For the last three years he has been co-curating and coordinating the Remix program (artengine.ca/remix), a popular cultural subversion project which commissions a dozen media artists every year to remix a specific television event. Stec has recently completed a curatorial residence based on this concept at Platform Gallery in Vaasa, Finland. He is also a long time board member and past president of SAW Video, Ottawa's largest artist-run media arts production and presentation space.
