Delusions of Grandeur
1998, Video, 24:00 (Colour, Mono)
This 24 minute videotape investigates lunacy and subterfuge in relation to dominant cultural narratives and a queer subject-position. Through sound and vision, Delusions of Grandeur examines the power and pitfalls in the search for an identity and a history outside cultures of normalcy while it questions what "normal" really is. Aspects of film noir, underground cinema, and even commercial television are engaged with a camp sensibility, inviting multiple readings and undermining claims to truth. Narrative tropes are quickly discarded cas the concern with uncovering a hidden past gives way to an impulse to rework and reshape what is already there.
