Missing: The American Family

1987, Video, 4:20 (Colour, Stereo)

by Michael Klein

This videotape explores television’s depiction of the child. These images can be divided into two distinct categories: children used in commercials to sell products, and missing children seen in news reports. The adorable children in idealized perfect families contradict the tragic children who are abducted or abused. However, just as the missing children are used and exploited, so are the children in the commercials.
