This House: A Documentary

1990, Video, 14:30 (Colour, Mono)

by Jack Lauder

This video chronicles the creation of a myth. The facts, like all the facts presented to us through news programs, documentaries and history classes, are processed. The tape illustrates how technology makes it possible for anything to be believed in the information age. The so-called “objective” narrator is a computer generated character whose mouth is made to shape the words he speaks. The tape, through the process of disintegration, shows that cameras do not lie, but they are given angles.
