Utilizing Digidesign’s PRO TOOLS for the Macintosh computer, The Abstractions of Beasts is an audio work which explores digital editing as a compositional tool. From a series of collective improvisations, segments were recorded and stored, then layered, looped, stacked, and cut to reconstruct the various arrangements. The resulting compositions betray their original sources for the new forms made possible through digital technology.
