Doodlebugs
1995, Video, 26:00 (Colour Black & White, Stereo)
A storytelling by doodlebuggers about their lives as seismic workers during the 1950s and 60s, profiling the women who left their hometowns to begin a new life on the road as a doodlebugger’s wife. This video combines the sense of constant travel with the nostalgia of looking through old photo albums. The prairie vista is contrasted with cramped trailer living; the solidarity with isolation; highlighting the closeness of the families as they lived, worked and played through this era of the oil business in Alberta.
