Spectacle Society

1999, Video, 6:30 (Colour, Stereo)

by Don Rice

Spectacle Society is a three part narrative chronicling the infiltration of media into our personal lives since the 1940's. The three examples show the pervasiveness of billboards in the 1940's, the surreal qualities of human interest news from the 1960's and the ever present surveillance cameras of today. The three examples were found as movies on the Internet and have been treated with fair use to create a new narrative.
