Voice Lessons
2001, Video, 5:05 (Colour Black & White, Stereo) [clip]
Voice Lessons explores intricate relationships between perspective and voice. The narrative is structured like a language primer. The lessons give prosaic instructions such as "listen and repeat" and "fill in the blanks". However, the avian images and sound that illustrate these lessons would be unlikely in any standard primer. Within this contrast of forms, image and text are poetically and humorously transformed. Voice Lessons poses many questions about how we look at things and how we speak of them. Study these questions carefully. There will be a test.
