Winter

2005, Video, 2:30 (Colour, Stereo)

by Brenna George

Winter was triggered by a sad event, a miscarriage. I felt loss, death and bareness. I emoted a softness and femininity through the use of colour choice. I asserted coldness through strict structure, desolate imagery and flatness. For me this work has a narrative arc: the baby inside, something goes wrong, awful things happen and one starts again. I wanted to express the flatness - the empty place that we inhabit within ourselves.
