Instructors: Julia Krolik and Owen Fernley

Julia Krolik and Owen Fernley have created award winning videos using code, projected audio responsive visuals onto gallery walls, and launched interactive web installations. In this workshop they highlight some of these projects from their data-focussed creative coding art practice. They discuss the motivation and challenges faced behind each project along with the tools used to make these projects possible.

About the Instructors:

Julia Krolik  is an information designer, data scientist, exhibiting artist and entrepreneur. Her scientific work includes published research in microbiology and public health. As an award-winning artist, Julia integrates scientific methodology and data into her creative process. Julia is the founder of Art the Science, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering science-art culture. Through her creative agency Pixels and Plans, Julia fuses scientific integrity, engaging design and teaching to empower government and ngo’s by providing visual communication services.

Owen Fernley is a software engineer and creative coder who builds applications and interactive experiences for the web. His projects involve collecting and processing data with tools such as node.js and python, and visualizing this data with d3.js, canvas and three.js. His work aims to balance stories with technology to create engaging learning experiences and time-based art.
